The official approval of the Taian hydrogen-promoting-sleep Technology Innovation Center represents a high-level recognition of Taian Central Hospital’s long-term commitment, sustained efforts, and continuous investment in the field of hydrogen-promoting-sleep technology! Cui Chao’s research team

Sleep disorders remain a major challenge

According to the 2023 China Sleep Big Data Report, in 2022 the prevalence of insomnia in China reached as high as 38.2%, with approximately 509 million people affected by sleep disorders; sleep disorders have become a significant issue that cannot be ignored. They are not only highly prevalent among middle-aged and elderly populations, but are increasingly affecting younger individuals as well, who experience varying degrees of sleep problems such as difficulty falling asleep, poor sleep quality, and insufficient sleep duration.

Sleep status across different age groups

Long-term insomnia and poor sleep quality can have serious adverse effects on physical health, easily leading to dysregulation caused by exhaustion of the body’s neuroendocrine stress-regulation system, impairing immune function, and accelerating signs of aging.

At present, there are many approaches to improving sleep-related breathing disorders, but their overall effectiveness remains unsatisfactory!

New approaches to improving sleep

Hydrogen-oxygen inhalation diagnostic and therapeutic technology has opened up a new pathway for improving sleep-related breathing disorders.

First, hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas inhalation therapy provides convenience and new possibilities for patients with sleep-related breathing disorders, improving sleep quality and thereby enhancing overall quality of life. At the same time, hydrogen-oxygen mixed inhalation can help rebalance dysregulated sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous activity, relieve and relax the nervous system, thereby improving sleep quality; this has particularly favorable effects for individuals experiencing cerebral hypoxia due to excessive stress or mental overexertion. Second, hydrogen-oxygen mixed inhalation can improve diseases associated with sleep disorders, such as hypertension induced by obstructive sleep breathing disorders, as well as neurocognitive impairment and intermittent hypoxia–related cardiac dysfunction caused by chronic intermittent hypoxia. This not only reduces patients’ medical expenses and healthcare insurance expenditures, but also lays a solid scientific foundation for in-depth research in hydrogen medicine.

In addition, hydrogen-oxygen mixed inhalation can reduce iron overload and alleviate renal damage caused by chronic intermittent hypoxia, which is undoubtedly good news for patients requiring long-term treatment for sleep disorders!

Promotion of new hydrogen-oxygen sleep improvement technology

In addition, in 2023 the Shandong Provincial Health Commission issued an official announcement listing the “application of hydrogen-oxygen inhalation for improving sleep-related breathing disorders” in the 2023 Shandong Provincial Appropriate Health Technology Promotion Program.
